Make Music VT: Come Jam at Kingsland Bay State Park

Vermont State Parks is happy to invite you to join a free celebration of music at Kingsland Bay State Park on the first day of summer, Friday, June 21. Park entry is free to attend these performances and no pre-registration is required.

Presented in partnership with Big Heavy World, Make Music Vermont is an international day of music-making that will take place in more than 120 countries and 1000 cities worldwide. Vermont is the first US state to coordinate a state-wide event, with performances at public places, including libraries, sidewalks, and state parks.

Kingsland Bay State Park will be hosting a special Make Music Vermont event celebrating the music and 100th anniversary of Pete Seeger’s birth. With a career spanning over eight decades, Seeger created music that celebrated the natural world and aimed to bring together people from all walks of life. A champion of the natural world and advocate for human compassion, Seeger often led communal singing to uplift those around him. In the spirit of bringing people together, day use fees for Kingsland Bay State Park are waived for this celebration!

Many of Pete Seeger’s longtime friends will be leading music circles including Rick & Donna Nestler, Mel & Vinnie, Dan & Faith, Rik Palieri along with many of the Hinesburg Song Farmers club singers with Barry King and more!

From noon to sunset, musicians will gather to sing and play throughout the park. Group leaders will be forming song circles for particular styles of music, such as blues and bluegrass, with group leaders facilitating each group so everyone gets to participate. It’s an all-day casual jam session open to singers, acoustic musicians, and enthusiastic listeners.

From 5pm to sunset, a sing-a-long circle will form in honor of Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday. Be sure to grab your picnic blankets and acoustic instrument. We’ll see you soon!
