Vermont State Parks

This past weekend Boy Scout, Patrick Clancy, built a wood shed at  Camp Plymouth for his Eagle Scout proj ect. The eagle scout project is one that  must demonstrate leadership and provide service to a worthy institution other than the Boy Scouts with a project idea which is valuable to the community and a challenge to the Eagle Scout. And we thank you, Patrick for choosing Vermont State Parks ! 

Sound artist Craig Calorusso is bringing his latest musical performance project, Sun Boxes, into five state parks for five weekends this summer. It's comprised of twenty speakers spread over a large, open lawn operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels. Inside each Sun Box is a PC board that has a recorded musical programmed to play continuously in a loop. Because the loops are different in length, once the piece begins they continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time. Participants are encouraged to walk amongst the speakers, and surround themselves with the piece. Certain speakers will be closer and, therefore, louder, so the piece will sound different to different people in different positions throughout the array. Allowing the audience to move around will create a unique experience for everyone. In addition, as people wander through the speakers, they alter the composition. Camp Plymouth Staff Each year four parks, representing each geographical region in  Vermont, are presented with the Park of the  Year Award. The purpose of the program is to acknowledge exemplary accomplishments of the parks field staff, as well as for the enhancement of public service – to make the parks a better, more enjoyable place to recreate. Competition is fierce and award recipients receive the right to display the coveted "Park of the Year" banner the following season. Haven't had your fill of swimming and picnicking yet for this year? Well, Camp Plymouth State Park will be open on weekends throughout the month of September. A popular place for day use and weddings, the park will open at noon on Fridays and at 10:00 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. The concession stand will be open from noon - 5:00 PM for ice cream, refreshments and boat rental. Pavilion rentals will also be available on weekends. Sorry, but pets are not permitted at this park. Camp Plymouth is also known for its housekeeping cottages, group and horse camping areas, popular playground, wide expanses of well-manicured lawns and its proximity to Coolidge State Park, with its spectacular fall hiking, the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Historic Site, Okemo, Killington and Pico resorts.

There are some new, healthy menu items at the concession stands at Silver Lake and Camp Plymouth State Parks in addition to the old standbys like ice cream and candy. Silver Lake State Park now offers fresh tossed and chef salads, summer pasta, potato and tortellini salads and a variety of sandwiches and wraps all made next door at the Barnard General Store. You can also pick up a S'mores kit - complete with marshmallows, Hershey bars and graham crackers, so you can fix up some s'mores right on the spot. Camp Plymouth State Park has also added tossed salads, with or without grilled chicken, fresh watermelon cups and and healthy sandwiches. Both parks, still offer summer classics like ice cream sandwiches, fudge bars and choco-tacos. So, what would you choose?
