Fire Tower Romance (Classic Blog)

In honor of Valentine's Day, we are re-posting this piece from the summer of 2016, about a fire tower romance, with Elmore State Park serving as the picturesque backdrop. 
The town of Lake Elmore, home to Elmore State Park, bills itself as “the beauty spot of Vermont”. It certainly a lovely place- the lake is clear and cold, and the popular hike up Elmore Mountain offers spectacular views of the lake, valley, and surrounding hills, including Mt. Mansfield. It’s also occasionally a hot spot for romance. We recently received an email from a woman named Krystal, who had good news for us.

“Yesterday my boyfriend Joshua, (now fiancé!!!) proposed to me! I'm so thrilled and wanted to share our story with you!

Early on in our relationship we began hiking in Vermont. We have so many incredible memories from hiking and many pictures documenting it!

We had talked about starting our hiking season back up and when we finally had a day off together we decided on Saturday that we would go to Mount Elmore Trail to hike to the Fire Tower. This was our first time visiting Elmore State Park and it was gorgeous! We commented the whole time on how we wanted to return to camp and visit the lake along with hiking!

The weather was perfect. I found out about the Venture Vermont Outdoor Challenge and started taking pictures to add for our score sheet! When we reached the fire tower, Joshua, who is a Burlington Fire Fighter, got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife!

The day was perfect and the memory will always be so special for me. Thank you for all the hard work everyone does to keep the trails and state parks maintained. Thanks to all of your hard work, you created a special memory for Joshua and I of our engagement.”

She also attached a few pictures of their hike up Elmore Mountain.

Vermont State Parks Total Eclipse Updates

Although it falls outside our regular park season, several Vermont State Parks will provide good viewing locations for solar eclipse on April 8. These parks include:   Bomoseen, Boulder Beach, Branbury, Crystal Lake, DAR, Elmore, Mt. Philo, Grand Isle, Knight Point, Lake Shaftsbury, Lake St. Catherine, Niquette Bay, Silver Lake, and Waterbury Center. Address and other general park information is available at www.vtstateparks.com .   The following previously listed state parks are no longer recommended eclipse viewing areas: Emerald Lake, Little River. Please be aware that park facilities will still be closed for this event. Portable toilets and/or pit/composting toilets will be available. July Flood 2024 State Parks Status Updates

Post last updated at 08/26/24 at 9:00 AM The only park affected by the flashing flooding on 7/30/24 was Brighton State Park. The park is fully reopened on Wednesday, August 7th. Roads were damaged in the park, locally in the town, as well as the nearby state highway. Park staff have contacted affected reservations.  All parks affected by the July 11 flood have reopened, although 3 parks still have reduced operations. This page will be regularly updated as more information is made available and road repairs are made. Swimwater results are current . Swim areas are posted when there is an increased risk of impaired water quality. For water monitoring results outside of Vermont State Park swimming areas, check out the Vermont Department of Health Cyanobacteria Tracker Map . Parks in the NE part of Vermont bore the brunt of the storm.  Park visitors with affected reservations have been contacted by the parks.  We apologize for this inconvenience.
